We mentioned in the dreadful diagnosis article that the people we know who beat cancer all had a positive attitude. In this regard, they are reminiscent of the Vikings, an ancient warrior nation. The Vikings lived by a code of persistence that has been carried down into the Finnish concept of Sisu.
Sisu:
Extraordinary endurance in the face of adversity, tenacity, indomitable spirit.
Think like a warrior
While a positive mindset will certainly assist you in dealing with cancer, you should also consult with your doctor to find the best treatment plan for you.
Cancer is not for sissies, so consider turning your back on being a victim and adopt a warrior mindset. As everyone is different, this might not be an approach that suits your temperament and world view. Not to worry, there are plenty of other resources and information on this site that will certainly be of benefit to you.
If you are up for a bit of fun, adopt a Viking Warrior avatar, like the founders of this site have done. We explain the power of laughter in the LAUGH IT OFF BLOG (coming soon).
If the thought of being like a Viking in your battle against cancer doesn't appeal to you, you might prefer to think of yourself as a different sort of warrior, such as:
- Ninja
- Samurai
- Zulu
- Gerka
- Ancient Roman
- Spartan
- Gladiator
- Native American
Female
- Amazon warrior
- Viking Shield Maiden
- Joan of Arc
- Boudica (Boadicea) (means victory)
Cancer Warrior by Ruth Levine
Ruth Levine was diagosed with stage IV colorectal cancer. Along with conventional treatment, she utilitzed exercise, nutrition, laughter therapy, imagery and reiki to overcome it. This is her story of the journey.
DON’T GIVE UP
PLEDGE
If this does not go against your faith, make a decision right now to adopt the Viking ethos of Sisu.
Pledge that:
“I will not be defeated by cancer, no matter what it takes. I will fight it like a Viking Warrior wielding a sword and a shield.”
(The Vikings took pledges very seriously: https://www.vikingwarriorshirts.com/blogs/news/viking-oaths-the-power-of-oaths-sworn-by-norse-vikings).
Or, adopting the advice from The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, imagine the cancer is already defeated and you are restored to perfect health.
Her advice is based on the biblical passage Mark 11:24 New King James Version:
”Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
